The Importance Of Organizational
Behaviors In The Workplace
Organizational Behaviors refer to how individuals react by
themselves or in a group in a company setting. This is the "micro"
point of view, a social science discipline. There are many a theory
on Organizational Behavior and how it could help the organization
by managing the behavior of the employee/s. In fact, it has been
accused as the scientific tool of the powerful. However, it has
been recognized that Organizational Behaviors play a major role in
the development and success of the company.
There are countless organizational behavior theories and one
theory is Motivation Theories. This explains how employees behave
to meet their needs, thus, affecting their choices. By knowing this
theory, managers see how employees make choices on working hard or
not working hard. This will always be based on their preferences,
rewards and outcomes. One of the motivation theories at work is
equity theory. Equity theory is when workers compare the rewards to
the outcome of the job that they have done. They do not look at
just their rewards but others as well. They tend to look over and
beyond their shoulders. So tendency is some employees might think
that they are getting less than their co-employees and vice versa.
If not managed well, this might be destructive to the organization.
Expectancy Theory is when an employee exerts high level of
performance because of good performance reflected on performance
appraisal. Another theory is the Expectancy Theory. This is cause
and effect of behavior and its consequences. There are techniques
that can be used at the workplace under the Expectancy Theory:
positive reinforcement, avoidance, extinction and punishment. Last
is the Goal Setting Theory. Employees do better work when they get
feedback on jobs done. Meanwhile, managers work on the goals with
the employees.
Organization Behavior is interesting as it allows the study of
human behavior and the reason why employees react to a certain
situation. The articles state that it is also practical because it
is the understanding of the reason why some offer products and
services efficiently while others do not.
Organizational Behaviors basically allows the identification of
performing workers from the non-performing workers. Thus, it gives
HR (Human Resource) these specific roles: organizational
restructuring, job designing, personnel planning, recruitment
hiring, evaluating, training, developing, promoting, compensating
and lastly, terminating. Without the theories on Observational
Behaviors, companies will most likely be scaring and driving away
people instead of attracting and motivating them to stay. Thus, the
reason for it's importance.
